Aramco names acting President and CEO

Amin H. Nasser, previously senior vice president for upstream, appointed to new role

Saudi Aramco has named Amin H. Nasser, previously senior vice president for upstream operations, as the new acting President and Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi state oil company.

The news comes less than a week after former CEO Khalid Al-Falih was appointed to the post of Health Minister and Chairman of Saudi Aramco’s board following a government reshuffle made by King Salman.

In a statement on Friday, Saudi Aramco said that Nasser will hold the posts of acting President and CEO “until further notice,” The Wall Street Journal has reported, adding that it remained unclear if he was to be considered an interim appointee and if the company is searching for a candidate to hold the post permanently.

Nasser is expected to continue Al-Falih’s vision to turn Aramco into a global integrated chemcial and petrochemical enterprise. Currently, Aramco is the world’s largest crude oil exporter with plans to become the second largest exporter of refined oil and gas products by 2017.

Nasser has spent more than 20 years at the oil giant, working in various roles throughout the organisation, including the Production Engineering, Drilling and Reservoir Management departments.

In January 2008, he was named business line head of exploration and production and was promoted to senior vice president of upstream just six months later.

Nasser holds a Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran.
