Iran is set to complete the construction of 12 key petrochemical facilities by 2016, according to Abbas Sheri-Moghaddam, managing director of Iran’s National Petrochemical Company.
Iran has set itself the ambitious target of tippling its petrochemical output to 180mn tonnes per year, and the completion of these projects will go some way to achieving this aim.
The projects include phase 2 of the Kavian Petrochemical plant, as well as other petrochemical complexes in Marvdasht (Shiraz), Lorestan, Kurdistan, Mahabad, Hegmataneh, Karoon, Dalahoo, phase 3 of Pardis Petrochemical plant, Takht-E Jamshid Petrochemical Company, a polystyrene complex, and the development project of Morvarid Petrochemical plant.
Moghaddam said that the Kavian Petrochemical plant would be the world’s largest ethylene producing unit, adding “phase 2 of this massive complex will come into production this year and with that the total production capacity of the complex will exceed 2 million tons per year.”
