The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has been awarded the 2017 Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Award of Excellence in Energy Management.
The award recognises the work of organisations around the world, which are using energy management systems to achieve energy, economic and sustainability benefits that boost competitiveness.
HE Eng. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, minister of energy, UAE, led the UAE delegation to the eighth Clean Energy Ministerial, and the second Mission Innovation Ministerial, hosted by Beijing, China, during 7-8 June 2017.
The Energy Management Leadership Awards honour companies and organisations, which have certified their energy management systems to the global ISO 50001 standard. ADNOC is the first major oil and gas company to be awarded ISO 50001 at a corporate level and for its group operating companies.
Bader Ali Al Mohamadi, manager, strategic projects unit, ADNOC, received the prestigious award, during the CEM event held in Beijing, China, on 8 June 2017. ADNOC is one of three organisations worldwide to receive this top honour in energy management in 2017.
ADNOC is implementing energy efficiencies that deliver significant tangible benefits, including cost savings that contribute to enhancing performance and strengthening profitability. ADNOC also implements new technologies across its onshore and offshore value chains to maximise the use of its resources.
ADNOC’s energy efficiency initiatives demonstrate that environmental sustainability and economic sustainability do not have to be mutually exclusive. Integrating energy efficient technologies into operations can, and does, deliver tangible, bottom-line, business results.
Earlier this year, ADNOC announced it will introduce measures that will increase energy efficiencies by 10 percent by 2020. The energy efficiency strategy will reduce ADNOC’s gas consumption by 156 million cubic feet per day, saving a total of US$1 billion by 2020.
The initiatives have already cut CO2 emissions by 3.1 million tons, the equivalent of 658,800 car journeys a year, compared with 2014 levels. Further cuts in emissions will occur over the next three years as additional operational efficiencies are introduced.
In addition to its own energy efficiency initiatives, ADNOC is working on demand side management, by influencing improved energy performance by its stakeholders and contractors, in support of an energy efficient economy in the UAE.
