Every year, we compile a list of the 30 EPC companies that stand out and have made a lasting impact on the upstream sector. This year, we have cut it down to just 25 companies; the competition is tougher, and it will take more for firms to impress our editorial team.

This year has been difficult, but we are beginning to see more activity in the sector, as oil prices have recovered significantly compared to the deep lows of 2020, and companies consider the path ahead. But the turbulence isn’t over yet, and oil and gas companies are increasingly looking for partners who can offer more value.

Value comes in many forms; it could mean deeper collaboration, a keen understanding and capability to provide solutions which help facilitate the energy transition, or the ability to bring digital technology into play across the partnership.

Of course, like everything else, it all comes down to costs. EPC firms have had to do more with less, just like operators and other service providers, and the pandemic has undoubtedly taken a toll on every oil and gas company’s bottom line.

As such, we have introduced a new criteria to our usual methodology, and our editorial team is considering the steps and measures taken by EPC companies to adapt to and mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methodology: When formulating this ranking, the Oil & Gas Middle East editorial team took into account financial reports, current and ongoing projects from the past 12 months (and their worth), planned projects, as well as CSR initiatives, the company’s COVID-19 response, its overall presence in and impact on the Middle East region, and its future potential.
