A small fire in the drilling rig of phase 11 of South Pars was quickly contained without any casualties, Iran’s energy news agency SHANA reported.

Pars Oil and Gas Company said that a fire broke out in the engine room of the MD-1 drilling rig belonging to MAPNA Noor Kish Drilling Company, located at the SPD11B platform in South Pars gas field, at noon on 5 May.

After taking safety measures and evacuating staff to the safe gathering zone, the fire was contained and the drilling rig returned to safe conditions.

No casualties were reported and the MD-1 drilling rig returned to safe conditions hours after the accident.

The cause of this accident has initially been reported as the overheating of the tower power supply generators, and after a thorough and comprehensive expert review, the dimensions of the accident will be reported to the relevant authorities.
