Final safety operations on Iran’s offshore Nowruz field were completed, securing wells 5, 6, 7, and 8.

The Iranian Offshore Oil Company said that the wells caught fire during an air attack and erupted during the Iraq/Iran war in the 1980s, and were later abandoned.

Diving teams from Khark Underwater Repairs performed the final repairs after 99 days of continuous operation, cooperating with DCI-2 drilling rig specialists, according to state news agency SHANA.

The platforms were destroyed during the war, and much of the underwater structure eroded in the following 35 years, causing two of the four wells on the fifth Nowruz platform to tilt and fall. More than 30 drilling operations were required in order to stem concerns about the re-eruption of these wells.
