Kuwait has awarded a $4.2bn contract to the Consolidated Contractors Co. (CCC) and Petrofac International to develop the Lower Fars heavy oil field.
The country’s central committee for tenders said the companies would work on the development of the first phase of the heavy oil project.
The field is slated to produce 60,000 barrels of heavy crude per day by 2018.
The contractors are expected to develop additional infrastructure that could double the field’s output by 2020.
Last year, Kuwait said it would drill more than 900 wells in the Lower Fars field as part of its effort to increase production from 2.8mn barrels per day to 4mn barrels per day in 2020.
