French President Emmanuel Macron told Al Arabiya that renegotiations on the Iran Nuclear Deal, originally agreed in 2015, would have to be “strict” and would need to include Saudi Arabia.
He warned that Iran was close to having a nuclear weapon, with a short period of time remaining to prevent that.
After former President Donald Trump withdrew from the Nuclear Deal in 2018, Iran started to breach the terms of the deal, and Trump imposed harsh sanctions on the nation.
While President Joe Biden has said that he plans to join the deal once more, he noted that Iran would have to strictly comply with its terms. Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has said that the nation would not reverse its nuclear programme until sanctions are lifted.
Countries in the region were excluded from the 2015 deal, and President Macron said that this ‘mistake’ should be avoided in any new negotiations. Both Saudi Arabia and the UAE have stressed the need for Gulf states to be involved in any talks.
