Attended by HE Eng Suhail Al Mazrouei, UAE minister of energy and chair of the UAE national committee, HE Dr Matar Al Neyadi, undersecretary of the ministry of energy and chair of the organising committee, signed the project management office (PMO) contract recently with Energy Events Experts, to support the work of the committee and ensure the efficient delivery of this milestone event for the UAE energy sector.
Held every three years and positioned as the flagship event of the World Energy Council, the World Energy Congress is the longest-running and most influential energy event in the world, covering all aspects and scopes of the energy sector across the world. The congress brings together heads of states and energy ministers from around the world, as well as energy leaders and stakeholders to lead the global energy debate.
The next World Energy Congress will take place in Abu Dhabi, following a successful international bid that Abu Dhabi won at the executive assembly of the World Energy Council in 2014. The Abu Dhabi congress will be held during 7-14 September 2019 and is envisioned to be the most successful World Energy Congress in history since its inception in 1924.
“When the UAE decided to enter the bid to organise the 2019 World Energy Congress, it did so with the vision to deliver the best congress in its more than 90 years of history,” said HE Al Mazrouei. “Today, we appoint the experts that will ensure that the vision for success of the 2019 World Energy Congress is delivered.”
Following a competitive tender held in 2016, the organising committee appointed Energy Events Experts (E3), a team of leading professionals with over 20 years’ experience in delivering premium events for the energy sector worldwide, as PMO and promoter of the 2019 World Energy Congress on behalf of the UAE organising committee.
“The planning and execution of a global event of this magnitude requires sophisticated organisational and execution skills, as well as an in-depth understanding of the energy sector, said HE Dr Al Neyadi. “We conducted a thorough process to learn the key lessons of preceding congresses and identified a need to bring an experienced PMO to support the complex work to coordinate thousands of energy stakeholders from around the world, as well as a multifaceted group of event-related organisations. Appointing the PMO three years in advance will ensure the efficient and viable delivery of the best World Energy Congress in the history of the World Energy Council,” added HE Dr Al Neyadi.
The E3 leadership, represented by Alexis Neron-Bancel, Managing Director, E3, conveyed that all their energies would be devoted to delivering the best possible World Energy Congress for all the stakeholders involved and that it was indeed an honour to play a fundamental role in this prestigious and challenging project. Abu Dhabi will join the exclusive list of cities that have hosted the World Energy Congress since 1926, in which only a selected list of 23 cities so far have hosted this event.
The 2019 Abu Dhabi World Energy Congress will be the first congress to take place in a MENA country. Also, the UAE will be the first OPEC country to host this crucial event for the energy sector. This confluence of unique factors will support the objective of the organising committee to deliver a unique platform for energy stakeholders covering all perspectives of the energy industry, to convene in Abu Dhabi in 2019 to strategically address the issues impacting the energy sector and continue to lead the global energy debate.
The 2019 World Energy Congress will join other world-leading energy events hosted in the UAE, such as ADIPEC, WEFS or WETEX, to make 2019 a genuinely critical year for the energy sector in the UAE and position the nation as an epicentre for the future of energy.
