His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, the Ruler of Sharjah, met with Eni’s Chief Executive Officer, Claudio Descalzi, today to take stock of Eni’s activities in the country, following its entry in January 2019 with the acquisition of the exploration rights for the onshore areas A, B and C.
Recently Eni and SNOC, the state company of Sharjah, announced the start of production from the Mahani field, located in the Concession Area B, onshore. This was achieved in less than two years from the signing of the oil contract and in less than a year from the declaration of discovery.
Eni is also carrying out exploration activities in areas A and C of the Emirate, of which Area C is largely underexplored, in order to contribute to the discovery of additional resources for the benefit of the development of Sharjah.
H.H Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi and Eni’s CEO also discussed future opportunities relating to the energy transition and projects related to renewables, an increasingly strategic area for Eni in the Middle East.
SNOC and Eni are engaged in exploring future collaboration in the broad energy value chain, including renewables, in line with Eni’s commitment for energy transition, toward carbon neutrality.
Eni Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi commented: “The milestones we have achieved so far with an incredible time-to-market is the result of the support of Dr. Sultan III bin Muhammad al-Qasimi and the harmonious partnership between SNOC and Eni. These are great achievements, particularly considering the exceptional challenges incurred during the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In addition to Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates, Eni is also present in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah.
