GCC forms special committee to discuss oil prices

Committee asked to prepare plan for use of energy resources

The Gulf Cooperation Council Consultative Authority formed a special committee in Doha yesterday to discuss the future of oil and gas as a source of wealth, The Peninsula reports.

The committee was asked to prepare a plan for maintaining the use of energy resources in a “strategic and developmental manner”, which it will present at the next meeting of the GCC authority in Muscat.

The authority will also look at possible ways to enhance cooperation between GCC states and boost income for GCC citizens.

Addressing the opening session of the meeting, Qatar’s foreign minister HE Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah called for strengthening GCC cooperation when the region is going through “exceptional circumstances”.

Al Attiyah said that better collaboration will fortify GCC states, strengthen their economic, social, political and security fabric, protect their gains and fulfil the aspirations of their peoples by avoiding any shocks or crises that will affect the GCC march and the well-being of their citizens.

“We in the ministerial council are confident that your Authority represents one of the most important joint GGC action and there is no doubt that your assignment by leaders of the GCC Supreme Council to study topics such as the ones that have been approved confirms that the Supreme Council is supporting your Authority’s vision,” he added.
