Russia’s new energy minister, Nikolai Shulginov, will meet with Bijan Zanganeh for the first time on Monday, according to Russian news agency TASS.
Shulginov became the energy minister in November, as Alexander Novak left the post to take on the role of deputy prime minister.
Zanganeh and Shulginov are meeting ahead of the OPEC+ meeting which will take place on 4 January 2021. Russia and Saudi Arabia have already confirmed their commitment to the ongoing production cuts.
Iran is exempt from the deal because of US sanctions which hurt the nation’s economy and slowed its oil production even before the coronavirus pandemic hit.
