The prestigious Oil&Gas Middle East 2013 Award show is approaching fast, have you got your nominations in yet?

The Middle East is arguably the world’s most important region for oil and gas. In such a competitive industry, it is not easy to determine who the best and biggest players are. Fortunately, Oil&Gas Middle East magazine can draw on the expertise of the people who know the industry best.

In this month’s awards show update, we reveal the judges who have been selected to assist us in selecting the nominees in the upcoming Oil&Gas Middle East awards.

From young engineers climbing the first rungs on the career ladder, to the project manager who has overcome seemingly insurmountable odds to bring projects in on time and on budget, right through to exemplary leadership at the top – the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards will identify those performers responsible for positioning the Middle East at the heart of the world’s energy sector.

In its fourth edition, the Oil&Gas Middle East Awards will best and brightest from the region’s hydrocarbon industry. This year, there will be a total of 13 categories; for the first time ever, the awards will also recognise refiners and petrochemical players.

The Judging panel will include:

Louis Besland, Partner, A.T.Kearney
Louis Besland is an A.T. Kearney partner and leads the Energy and Chemicals Practices in the Middle East. He is the managing partner of the Abu Dhabi office. He is a recognized international thought leader in strategy development for the energy and chemicals sectors.

During his 25 years of consulting experience, Louis has helped major oil and gas, chemicals, utilities, and other process industry companies to design new organizations, define business strategies, define sustainability roadmaps, reach operational excellence, and conduct supply chain as well as procurement transformations.

He has also helped governments and public organizations develop long-term, actionable plans related to energy and sustainability. Louis received a master’s degree in engineering from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France.

Terry Willis, Managing Director, Energy Industries Council UK (Middle East Chapter)
Terry Willis is the Managing Director EICUK (Middle East), the operating office for all of The EIC’s activities in the Middle East region.

With almost 30 years of experience working and living throughout the region, prior to establishing The EIC office in Dubai in March 2004, Terry spent 11 years with a UK manufacturer of specialist cable terminations used in the oil & gas sector, setting up their Middle East office in Jebel Ali, Dubai in 1996.

He first arrived in the Middle East in 1982 working as a Sales Engineer in Qatar for a UK multinational cable manufacturer and after a brief period in Bahrain, moved to Saudi Arabia where he became country manager prior to the first Gulf War in 1991. He holds a Fellowship Membership of the Chartered Institute of Marketing

H.E Khamis Bu Amim, Chairman, Dubai Dry Docks
Appointed as Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World in May 2010. H.E. Khamis Bu Amim, was elected as President and Chief Executive Officer of Regional Clean Sea Organization (The region oil industry org.) in April 2007.

Prior to joining RECSO, he was with Conoco and ConocoPhillips for 26 years in various management positions, including Vice President of Dubai Petroleum Company (DPC), a ConocoPhillips affiliate company in the United Arab Emirates.

He also served as the Secretary General of the UAE Oil & Gas Human Resources Group, led the Dubai Petroleum Management Incident Command System, Member of International Human Resources Management, Advisor to the Gulf Career Development Forum, Secretary General of the Dubai Government Oil Spill Task Force, the Crisis Management Team of Dubai and the Region and Senior MENA region Advisor-Global Energy.

Dr. Abdulwahab Sadoun, Secretary General, Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association
Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Sadoun was appointed as the Secretary General of GPCA in March 2009. A 1990 PhD graduate of the University of London in Industrial Chemistry, he started his professional carrier with SABIC as a Senior Researcher in the R&D Center (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) where he worked from July 1990 to October 1995.

He then joined the Qatar-based Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) in January 1996 where he worked as a Petrochemical Expert in the Projects Department until June 1997. In July 1997, he was appointed Director of the Industrial Information & Coordination Department at GOIC. In November 2001, Al-Sharq Plastic Industries Co. (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) appointed Dr. Al-Sadoun as the Vice President until November 2004.

In December 2004 he joined the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) and acted as the Director-General of the Energy Sector till January 2008 when he co-founded PetroBaas, a project development platform with focus

Abhay Bhargava, Head of Energy & Power Systems Practice, MENA, Frost & Sullivan
Abhay is a business expansion specialist, with over 12 years of global experience across the Energy, Power and IT industries. Having assisted a number of companies go from start-up to multi-million dollar revenues in 3-5 years time periods, Abhay holds considerable expertise in facilitating the setting up of new businesses and structuring geographic expansion, especially in the Middle East and Indian subcontinent geographies.

Abhay’s specialization in the Energy & Power industry is backed by a sound and indepth understanding of companies across the entire Energy industry value chain, including National Oil Companies, Power generation firms, Engineering and Design firms, EPC contractors and service/Material/Equipment providers.

At Frost & Sullivan, Abhay is responsible for leading the Energy and Power Systems Practice in the Middle East and North Africa. His core areas of focus in the region are Renewables, Power Transmission & Distribution, and Power Generation. He is passionate about the advent of Renewables, and ongoing developments WRT integration of technologies into the Power industry, and is a strong supporter of the same.

Nominating your company or colleagues is free and very simple to do. Just visit the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards website – www.arabianoilandgas.com/ogawards, click on the “NOMINATIONS” tab, followed by “Submit Nominations”, complete the quick registration process and enter as many categories as you wish. After completing the online entry of no more than 200 words, you should email supporting documents that will help your nomination to oagawards@itp.com.

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday 6th August and at this time all of the nominations and supporting documents will be sent to our esteemed judging panel for their decisions. Shortlisted nominees will be informed approximately a month before the awards, with winners only being announced on the night of the awards.
