South Pars, the world’s biggest gas field that lies between Iran and Qatar, will be fully developed by 2017.
Deputy of the ministry for planning and supervising hydrocarbon resources Mansour Moazzami said all phases of South Pars will be developed by 2017, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
He said the first phases of the gas field are already producing 100mn m3 of gas a day, adding that the same amount will be added to the country’s production capacity next year.
The work on the field will be completed on by 2017 whether or not Iran’s sanctions are lifted, he added.
South Pars, which is jointly operated by Qatar Petroleum and National Iranian Oil Company covers an area of 9,700km2- 3,700km2 of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.
The remaining 6,000km2 are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.
The gas field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about 8% of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18bn barrels of condensate, IRNA added.
