Iran South Pars to pump 100mcm gas daily by March

Income from field to hit 167bn in 2017- 2018

Iran plans to pump 100mn cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas per day from its South Pars gas field by March, Tehran Times has reported.

Iran’s oil minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh told the newspaper that targets will be fullfiled by March- the end of this Iranian calendar year.

Zanganeh said that phases 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18 were among top priorities in the giant gas field, adding that phase 12 will be fully operational in the near future.

Phase 16 of South Pars come on line will come online in early December. Officials expect output of phases 15 and 16 to hit 23mcm per day once the three gas desalting installations become operational.

South Pars is the world’s largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar. 

Iranian official predicted end of last year that Iran’s income from South Pars will hit 167bn in 2017- 2018 once the number of refineries reach 14 from existing five.

Managing director of South Pars Gas Complex Massoud Hassani put current annual income at $56bn, which accoridng to estimates could triple over the next two to three years.

He also announced a 20% increase in gas extraction volume in the first six months of the current Iranian year, which started on March 21st 2014, compared with the same period last year.
