Transforming today’s oil wealth into a broader based industrial wealth, investing in people, particularly in youth with a focus on technical skills training, and thereby developing internationally qualified Omani technical professionals, is essential for Oman, according to Shuayb Al Suleimany, vice chairman and managing director of Seven Seas Petroleum.

“Developing local industrial competence that will induce growth in our economy and sustain it after Oil & Gas, and developing a manufacturing and services capability in-country will provide service to the region and beyond,” said Al Suleimany.

Although there has been an increase in the number of new manufacturers and service providers setting up in Oman as a result of the governments localisation initiative, the country is still heavily reliant on importing key oilfield goods and services from abroad.

“The recently signed partnership between Proserv and Seven Seas will allow us to introduce increased competition to western standards,” said Andy Anderson, MENA president from Proserv.

Proserv will be able to team up with Seven Seas Petroleum to manufacture, provide spares and rapid response maintenance solutions as well as key oilfield services.

“The need for localisation is immense from every aspect, as it brings benefits to industries, customers, and government,” said Anderson.

Seven Seas Petroleum is focussing on driving Omani development and maximising in-country value for its Principals’ products.

“All of the application engineering for the products sold in Oman is done locally by a team of professionals including Omani nationals. All the after-sales services delivered to our customers is via an all Omani team of certified engineers who have been extensively trained at overseas factory locations.

At Seven Seas Petroleum, we have have indigenised various offerings, including a state-of-the-art Valve Automation Centre [again with a majority Omani crew], locally delivered metering and multiport skid projects, and a Centre of Excellence for Digital Net Oil Computers are few examples,” said Al Suleimany.
