The Middle East Oil & Gas Show (MEOS) due to be held in Bahrain between March 20-23 has been called off until later this year due to the ongoing anti-government protests, according to the show’s organisers.
The decision was made after a meeting between the Society of Petroleum Engineers together with Arabian Exhibition Management and the Bahrain Ministry of Oil and Gas Affairs on February 28.
“The executive committee of MEOS and the event organisers have considered all aspects of the available options, taking into account the safety of all delegates, visitors and exhibitors who were likely to attend the event as scheduled, the importance of the event to the international and regional industry professionals and the commitment and contributions of supporters towards it,” a statement by the organisers said.
“After careful consideration, it was decided to reschedule the 17th edition of MEOS. New dates will be announced on 21 March 2011 following a second committee meeting that will take place on 20 March 2011.”
Inaugurated in 1979, the Middle East Oil & Gas Show and Conference (MEOS), is the most established exhibition of oil and gas products and services in the Middle East, attracting NOCs, IOCs and major operating companies.
The island kingdom has seen weeks of mass protests which began relatively calmly but have since escalated due to the government’s use of force against them leaving seven people dead.
