L&T Modular Fabrication Yard (L&T MFY), a joint venture between Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Zubair Corporation of Oman, will dedicate its fabrication facility to Oman as part of its inauguration to coincide with the Sultanate’s 40th anniversary.
L&T MFY’s facility is the first in Oman geared to build very large structures for the upstream oil & gas industry. It will build structures that have never been built before in the region.
Commenting on the facility, L&T chairman and managing director, A. M. Naik, said: “We would like to reaffirm our commitment to the progress, prosperity and technological development of Oman and its industry. L&T MFY is the first of its kind in the country and will transform the region’s capabilities for the fabrication of offshore equipment for the oil & gas sector. The venture will focus on sustainable growth in harmony with the environment and the community around us. Omanisation, therefore, is high on our agenda. Our emphasis on training is raising the skill levels of our Omani personnel to world standards.”
Commenting on the occasion Zubair Group chairman, Rashad bin Mohammad Al Zubair said: “We are proud of our 15 year long association with Larsen and Toubro, one of the largest and most respected business entities from India. Though the manufacturing sector in the Middle East region is still in its early stages, we realised that Oman’s unique advantages of location, including the port facilities at SIPC, provide the opportunity to establish a mega manufacturing facility supplying equipment to large oil and gas companies around the world.”
The L&T MFY is located in the Sohar Industrial Port Area and covers an area of 400,000 square metres with a dedicated load out facility. The yard has facilities for heavy fabrication, equipment for testing and load out of ultra large modules. L&T MFY has an annual load out capacity of up to 50,000 tonnes.
L&T and Zubair Corporation have a range of offerings including the following joint ventures:
L&T Heavy Engineering a manufacturing centre of excellence, builds critical equipment for the hydrocarbon industry, the oil & gas sector, power and fertiliser projects for Oman as well as for other countries in the region.
L&T Electromech provides expertise in the construction and service sectors and is now a major contractor to the PDO in oilfield projects.
L&T Oman is involved in civil, electrical and mechanical construction and engineering, and has been involved in various projects in Oman over the last 15 years.
