Technip, leader in a consortium with Hawk International, has begun work on a turnkey contract on a lump sum basis by Total E&P Yemen for the Kharir Power Plant Project in the south of the country. The Kharir field is located in the Block 10 of East Shabwa, Yemen.
The project covers the engineering, procurement, supply, construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning as well as assistance to start-up and performance test of a 40 MW power plant (expandable to 100 MW), the company revealed to ArabianOilandGas.com.
The power plant will utilise the gas associated with oil production in the Kharir field to produce electrical power for the industrial facilities and operations within the field. It will include two dual-fuel turbine generators, a fuel gas compressor, containerised substations, transformers, utilities and control/safety systems.
Technip’s operating centre in Abu Dhabi will be responsible for the overall project management, engineering, procurement and commissioning. Hawk International will be responsible for site management, construction and pre-commissioning activities.
The project started on October 10, 2010 with a 23-month schedule.
Technip has been involved in various work gas production related work in Yemen, in 2005 it was involved in a joint venture with Yemen’s Yemgas to build a US$2 billion liquified natural gas plant for Yemen LNG Company, the country’s first.
