Sonatrach appoints Nordine Cherouati as CEO

Former CEO Mohamed Meziane remains under criminal investigation

Algerian Energy Minister Chakib Khelil has appointed Nordine Cherouati, as new CEO of Sonatrach. Cherouati replaces Abdelhafid Feghouli, who had assumed the position of acting CEO of the national hydrocarbon company since last January, Sonatrach said in statement.

The new CEO Cherouati was head of Algeria’s Hydrocarbon Regulatory Authority, one of two main regulators in the energy sector. Sonatrach was managed by Feghouli, previously the company’s vice-president for downstream activities, after the former CEO Mohamed Meziane was placed under investigation over procurement issues.

The new nomination list includes Saïd Sahnoun, in position of vice president of the upstream activities. Allaoua Saidani, as vice president of transports activity, Abdelkader Benchouia in position of the downstream activities, while Yamina Hamdi, was appointed as head of marketing.
