The legs of an offshore oil and gas drilling rig owned by US company Noble Corp have penetrated the sea floor off the coast of Qatar, causing significant damage to both the jackup and all three of its legs.
Noble Corp said that the jackup was conducting preloading operations when the “punch through” occurred on May 8. The company also said that no injuries or pollution had been reported from the area and that the rig was stable.
Noble said its insurance deductible was $25 million for such an event.
Both the Doha and US office of Noble Copr said that no-one was available to comment.
