CSR Initiative of the Year 2019 winner at the Middle East Energy Awards announced

Industry leaders gathered to celebrate a CSR programme that has provided demonstrable and lasting benefits to its targeted beneficiaries.

With a striking increase in submissions this year, our judging panel had to scrutinise a competitive crop of candidate from across the upstream, midstream, downstream and utilities sectors. The shortlist represented some of the best in the industry, but ultimately, one winner and one highly commended nomination were chosen.

The winner of CSR Initiative of the Year 2019:

Torathuna (Our Heritage) by SATORP, was awarded the CSR Initiative of the Year award. It aims to preserve the Saudi Arabian rich heritage and handicrafts through an integrated programme that aims at training, supporting, developing and financing the entrepreneurship of the kingdom’s craftsmen.

“Torathuna means heritage, in Torathuna we commit ourselves to preserve heritage by supporting youth and handicraft,” said Sultan Al Anzi, project manager at SATORP. “Transferring them from handicraft to entrepreneurs with a full programme. It has full funding, training and a workshop. It is our vision to preserve our heritage and support our people in Saudi Arabia.”

Highly commended for CSR Initiative of the Year 2019:
The highly commended nominee was ADNOC for its STEM Education Programme.

The jury panel this year, comprising six judges – Abhay Bhargava, director, industrial practice, MEA, Frost & Sullivan; Ali Al Janabi, UAE country chair, vice president, Shell Upstream, Shell Group of companies; Bart Cornelissen, energy, resources & industrials leader, Middle East, Deloitte Middle East; Joseph J Anis, president and CEO, power services and gas power systems, MENASA, GE Power; Nicholas Cochrane-Dyet, special advisor to the chief representative, BP Oil International; Vinod Raghothamarao, director, energy wide perspectives and strategy, IHS Markit EMEA– considered the merit of the nominees, and decided the winner and the ‘highly commended’.
