With a striking increase in submissions this year, our judging panel had to scrutinise a competitive crop of candidate from across the upstream, midstream, downstream and utilities sectors. The shortlist represented some of the best in the industry, but ultimately, one winner and one highly commended nomination were chosen.
The winner of Young Energy Professional of the Year 2019:
Helal Suhail Al Mazrouei, a petrochemicals analyst at the Mubadala Investment Company, was awarded the Young Energy Professional of the Year award. He has “worked at various sites, including the Borouge plant in Ruwais, as well as Borealis’ Linz and Schwechat plants in Austria. During the rotation programme at Borealis Linz, he had an active role in researching and testing a set of new catalysts intended to enhance the chemical reactions across Borealis’ sites. The feedback received from Borealis team recognised the nominee’s enthusiasm and drive to add value to any team, or project he gets involved with.”
“I would like to thank Mubadala, and specifically the leadership of Mubadala for giving us unlimited support to grow and excel in our fields, and I think the award I received today demonstrates how the environment is set for us to excel within Mubadala,” Al Mazrouei said.
Highly commended for Young Energy Professional of the Year 2019:
The highly commended nominee was Fajer Ahmad, a petroleum engineer at Kuwait Oil Company.
The jury panel this year, comprising six judges – Abhay Bhargava, director, industrial practice, MEA, Frost & Sullivan; Ali Al Janabi, UAE country chair, vice president, Shell Upstream, Shell Group of companies; Bart Cornelissen, energy, resources & industrials leader, Middle East, Deloitte Middle East; Joseph J Anis, president and CEO, power services and gas power systems, MENASA, GE Power; Nicholas Cochrane-Dyet, special advisor to the chief representative, BP Oil International; Vinod Raghothamarao, director, energy wide perspectives and strategy, IHS Markit EMEA– considered the merit of the nominees, and decided the winner and the ‘highly commended’.
