3M Personal Safety Division hosted a seminar in Dubai to raise awareness about noise as a major health and safety hazard at the workplace.
The company used the opportunity to showcase various technology in noise monitoring, personal safety and communication products.
Experts told regional players in the oil and gas industry about the latest ways of measuring noise exposure levels and the importance of data logging in reviewing and analysing sound exposure.
3M also highlighted the need of selecting the right hearing protection according to noise levels and human needs as well as the ability of doing two-way communications in a noisy environment.
“Noise is one of the major hazards in any working environment and it needs an effective solution to overcome it. It is a vital necessity for workers to be able to communicate with their surroundings whilst at the same time stay protected from harmful noise levels which are often so high that they can cause immediate, permanent damage to the hearing if proper protection is not put in place,” said Abdelmajid Riyadh Awad, advanced technical service engineer, 3M Gulf.
