The Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company, ADMA-OPCO, announced the production of its first oil from the Umm Lulu Field near Abu Dhabi.

The oil was produced through ZADCO’s facilities at Umm Al-Dalkh and Zirku Island. The Phase-1 development includes two new wellhead towers to host ten new wells, powered by solar energy, subsea pipelines, fibre optic cables for data transfer and a flexible pipeline for water disposal.

The first well flowed at 5000 bpd joining the offshore production system. The company has announced plans to add 270,000 bpd capacity by developing 3 new fields offshore. Umm Lulu field will contribute 105,000 bpd with Phase-I project estimated to add 22,000 bpd by the end of 2015. The full field development will add the rest in 2018.

The project was awarded on a lump sum basis under two separate contracts- Package 1 to NPCC, and Package 2 to the joint venture of NPCC/Technip. The facilities are undergoing phases of design and construction and are planned to be installed from 2015 to early 2018, becoming operational in 2018.

International oil and gas exploration company Inpex also launched their first development phase of production from the Abu Dhabi field. The IOC extracted its first oil by using existing facilities of the Umm Al-Dalkh Oil Field near Umm Lulu Oil Field. Full field development of the Umm Lulu Oil Field is currently in progress. The field, located just 30km off Abu Dhabi main city, is expected to produce oil at a peak rate of 105,000 bpd when development is completed.

The oil produced from the Umm Lulu Oil Field in the first development phase will be transported to Zirku Island near the UAE through an existing subsea pipeline and will eventually be supplied to customers in Japan and other Asian countries as Upper Zakum Crude.

Inpex has been engaged in the oil development business in Abu Dhabi for 40 years through its wholly-owned subsidiary Japan Oil Development Company (JODCO). The company owns participating interests1 in the producing oil fields of Umm Shaif, Lower Zakum, Umm Lulu, Upper Zakum2, Umm Al-Dalkh and Satah. Inpex also owns interests in the Nasr Oil Field which is currently under development.

Inpex will continue to actively engage in the oil development business as well as social contribution activities in Abu Dhabi.
