Saudi Arabian Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid Al-Falih announced that a processing unit at the Shaybah natural gas plant was targeted by drones in the early morning on 17 August, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Saudi Aramco announced that its response team controlled a “limited fire” at the Shaybah NGL facility. The company noted that there were no injuries, and the attack did not impact its operations, causing only minor damages to the facility.
According to AFP, Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack, which they said used 10 drones.
Al-Falih also said that the attack was the latest part of a series of attacks on oil infrastructure, including the sabotage of pumping stations along the East-West pipeline, and attacks on oil tankers off Fujairah and close to the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that these attacks “are not only aimed at Saudi Arabia, but also against the global economy.”
