Over 2,000 oil and gas professionals will converge at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre on Sunday 25 September for the conference opening session of the 17th Society of Petroleum Engineers Middle East Oil & Gas Show and Conference (MEOS 2011).

The associated 14,800 square metre exhibition of industry products and services will open in a separate ceremony on Monday 26 September under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The conference opening session on 25 September assembles a panel of high ranking industry figures who will deliver their own perspective on this year’s theme ‘Shaping the Future of the Industry: Innovating Beyond Limits’. The theme cites the importance of innovation to the oil and gas industry and challenges it to move forward with adaptively intelligent technologies, out-of-the-box business models and exceptional human skills.

Following welcome addresses by Bahrain’s Minister of Energy His Excellency Dr. Abdul-Hussain bin Ali Mirza and the 2012 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) President Ganesh Thakur, the speakers include:

Mohammad A. Husain (moderator)
MEOS 2011 Chairman and Deputy Chairman and Deputy Managing Director – MAA Miha Al-Ahmadi Refinery, Kuwait National Petroleum Company

Amin H. Nasser
Senior Vice President, Upstream, Saudi Aramco

Abdul Munim S. Al-Kindy

MEOS 2011 will also offer 5 panel sessions led by presidents, vice presidents, CEOs, deputy managing directors, and chairmen of key players in the industry such as ADCO, Baker Hughes, Exxon Al Khalij, GE Oil & Gas, KBR, Kuwait Oil Company, NPS Energy, Petroleum Development Oman, Shell, Weatherford International, and WorleyParsons. The sessions will cover the future relation between IOCS, NOCS, and the service industry, how to avoid past mistakes, the value chain integration in mega projects, capacity and skills development, and how fast is technology being developed.

SPE Workshops, Training Courses & Young Members Programme

Other highlights during the course of the conference include a one day workshop on 25 September entitled ‘Unlocking Talent Potential in the Region: Building Your Future by Collaboration and Knowledge Transfer’. Organised by the SPE with the support of key regional and international E&P players, it will focus on current workforce issues in the oil and gas industry.

A total of 2 training courses will be staged on 25 September, providing delegates with further opportunities to learn and integrate, entitled ‘Transient Well Testing’ and ‘Waterflooding Concepts, Design Prediction and Optimisation’.

A four day Young Members Programme, sponsoring 100 of the best undergraduate geosciences and engineering students from Middle East institutions to attend MEOS 2011, is also being held by the SPE.

The Exhibition

More than 300 companies from 30 countries will be in attendance at the MEO 2011 exhibition, which covers all areas of the upstream oil and gas industry, including production, reservoir management, drilling, completions, measurement systems, geology, geophysics, automation, transportation, health and safety, and information technology.

Participants include such major technology suppliers and operators such as Baker Hughes, BGP, CGGVeritas, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, Occidental Petroleum Corporation, Schlumberger, Shell, and Weatherford; amongst others; in addition to UK and North America pavilions plus numerous smaller specialist suppliers and distributors.

The exhibition also enjoys strong support from all 6 GCC national oil companies – Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Bapco, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Petroleum Development Oman, Qatar Petroleum and Saudi Aramco.

MEPEX 2011 & the Getenergy Village

Two new co-exhibitions will run alongside MEOS 2011 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre – MEPEX 2011 and the Getenergy Village.

Following similar successful events held around the world, the Getenergy Village provides a focal point for universities, colleges and training providers to exhibit and interact with E&P companies.

Across three days at MEOS, a series of ‘Star Turn’ presentations will also be delivered by leading figures from the international education and energy industries. Speakers will discuss their own career development and how their company is supporting education and workforce development for the energy industry. Expert speakers from the Iraqi oil and gas industry will also discuss the latest education initiatives between the Ministry of Oil and the international oil industry.

The 2nd edition of the Middle East Prospect Exhibition (MEPEX 2011) is held under the patronage of Bahrain’s Energy Minister His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, and developed by a committee steered by Bapco.

This prime E&P business event showcases opportunities in unexplored oil and gas reserves and prospects for development in the Middle East and beyond, providing a marketplace for the buying, selling and trading of oil and gas prospects and producing properties.

“With a rich technical programme and a comprehensive exhibition, companies and delegates alike can utilise MEOS 2011 to learn, forge trading relationships, share expertise and knowledge, and create new technologies for exploration and production,” commented Waleed Refaay, Managing Director, SPE Middle East North Africa and India.

“Since this event first took place in 1979, it has remained one of SPE’s main Middle-East focused events, which has contributed to the growth of our industry and the development of our resources,” he continued.
