The energy industry supply chain is transforming rapidly as global challenges add pressure on the industry players to improve their efficiency and end-to-end supply chain. Against this backdrop, a new set of technological advancements, known as ‘Supply Chain 4.0’, is influencing how organisations oversee their logistics, procure materials, and generate value. The move towards greater digitalisation is transforming energy industry supply chains, creating new opportunities to make them more agile, resilient, faster and efficient.
In line with the regional aspirations to position the Arabian Gulf region among the top logistics hubs globally, future GCC governments’ visions and long-term initiatives have been launched with the objective to transform the supply chain landscape in the region.
It is worth mentioning here the outcome of the 11th edition of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Supply Chain Conference held during 15-17 April 2019 at the InterContinental Festival City Hotel, Dubai, UAE. According to the speakers at the conference, the chemical industry in the Arabian Gulf must ensure its readiness to face the growing rate of supply chain digitalisation, which will lead to continuous disruptions and create new challenges and opportunities for regional producers to adapt to and respond to a new market reality.
In the energy industry, the processed natural gas and oil products need to be transported to different places where it is sold, used, or redistributed, using the conventional methods like trucks, railways, ships, and pipelines. The same applies to petrochemical manufacturing industry as well.
The products created by the energy industry are products nearly everyone in the society will come into contact on daily basis, without which the quality of life would be drastically different for everyone. This is why the logistics, terminals and storage for the energy industry are so important in deciding the economic progress of every nation.
Introduced in 2017, the winner of the 2018 ‘Logistics Service Provider of the Year’ Award was Tristar Transport from United Arab Emirates. Tristar Transport was selected winner for its commitment to meet and exceed all statutory and regulatory requirements on HSE performance.
This award means a lot to a company like Tristar, which is actively participating in all logistics and supply chain activities. Today, Tristar is largely focused on oil and gas supply chain requirements. The ‘highly commended’ nomination in this category for 2018 was RSA Talke for its dedicated efforts towards health, safety and the environment.
With 16 prestigious awards to be bestowed on the best in the industry, the Middle East Energy Awards ceremony is slated for 18 September 2019, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The online nominations for these awards are already open at www.oilandgasmiddleeast.com/energyawards and the nomination deadline is 3 July 2019.
The ‘Logistics Service Provider of the Year’ Award winner will be decided based on the innovations and value creation offered by the service provider. The nomination process is online only. This year, there are four awards for individuals and 12 for organisations.
The nominations process
All nominations must be submitted through www.oilandgasmiddleeast.com/energyawards, and only nominations submitted through this portal will be considered.
Three simple steps to make nominations:
1. Create a personal user account on the aforementioned website.
2. For each submission, fill out a questionnaire to help the independent panel of judges decide why the nominee deserves to win.
3. Upload one PDF file with supporting images and documents, not more than 10MB in size. Photos are generally more impactful, so please submit images.

HSE Initiative of the Year: A specific initiative that has demonstrably helped to reduce accidents and problems in the workplace, and has generally improved safety.
Innovator of the Year Award: This individual is dedicated to changing the industry, and fosters growth through innovative technologies, strategies and vision.
Lifetime Achievement Award: This individual has made a visible, positive impact in the regional industry, with over 25 years in the development and progress of the sector.
Logistics Service Provider of the Year: A logistics company offering innovative solutions that create value for energy companies.
Oilfield Services Company of the Year: The most successful, innovative oilfield services company in the region over the last 18 months, showcasing interesting solutions.
Operational Excellence Strategy of the Year: The most innovative and ambitious operational excellence project by an energy firm in the Middle East.
Talent Development Initiative of the Year: An initiative that has made a difference in the industry by training the next generation of professionals, or upskilling the existing workforce.
Technical Innovation of the Year: A project that demonstrates a successful, innovative technical solution, which has solved a serious problem faced by the energy industry.
Upstream Project of the Year: An ambitious, innovative project that optimises, or streamlines upstream operations, reflecting leading behaviour in the market.
Utilities Project of the Year: An innovative project disrupting the region’s utilities landscape, offering much-needed hope for a better, more sustainable future.
Young Energy Professional of the Year: An employee aged 30 and younger whose work has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on his/her company over the past 18 months.
