Oil major Total hopes to start a digital factory in the next few weeks, Bloomberg reported, with the aim of using artificial intelligence to cut exploration and production costs by hundreds of millions of dollars.
Arnaud Breuillac, who heads Total’s exploration and production division, reportedly said that artificial intelligence would be used to screen geological data, thereby helping identify production prospects in less time, optimising equipment use and reducing maintenance costs.
Total CEO Patrick Pouyanne said the digital factory will employ 200 to 300 engineers, and could help attract youth to the industry.
